Kendo
Interested in learning kendo? Classes for beginning kendo are available through the Tacoma Kendo & Iaido Club.This introduction to kendo, taught by Yoshikawa Sensei covers basic techniques, skills, discipline, and self development in a traditional dojo setting.
No special equipment or clothing is necessary. Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes suitable for active exercise.The beginners class is integrated into our club practice Monday evening at 7:00 at the South Park Community Center.
Kendo Club Participation
New students will participate with Tacoma Kendo & Iaido Club members during the first hour of club practice.Within 1 month of practicing as a beginner, a student should purchase a shinai available at the dojo or online (see links page).Within 2 months of practicing as a beginner, a student should consider purchasing hakama & gi. There are often vendors available at events who can recommend correct sizing; or the clothing can be purchased through an online vendor.Bogu should be purchased when a student feels confident with basic kendo skills. Yoshikawa Sensei is available to discuss equipment purchases.
